Walter Hays Kids' Club

Walter Hays Kids' Club (WHKC) is accredited by the National AfterSchool Association (NAA), and adheres to the organization's high standards for after-school care. WHKC offers the children a setting of warmth and security, while fostering independence and initiative by allowing freedom of choice and responsibility within set limits. We pride ourselves on being a "kids choice" program, providing children with many exciting activities daily. This atmosphere is provided by caring teachers dedicated to the field of after school care.

Center Activities

WHKC has two spacious rooms for children to utilize. The main room (Rainbow Room) is used for most arts and crafts and a host of creative activities. The game room (Star Room) features a pool table, foosball table, air hockey and dance area with full-length mirrors and lights. This room is geared for the older children for entertainment and engagements in games. We also provide a healthy and nutritional snack.

Each month the program integrates a different theme into the children's daily activities. Children have a multitude of teacher-led projects to choose from each day. Children participate in Group Games/Sports on Monday; Cooking on Tuesday; Special Clubs on Wednesday; Arts and Crafts on Thursday; and Kids' Choice on Friday. Children are also encouraged to take part in outside adventures or games on a daily basis, weather permitting.

WHKC has an active junior staff comprised of 4th and 5th graders who help with center activities. They have special jobs and are role models to the younger children. They also plan and participate in at least two community service projects a year.

Homework Time: Monday thru Thursday we provide a homework time for 2nd-5th graders. During this time teachers are available to assist your child with any homework needs.

Parent Information and Participation

At WHKC we believe that communication with our parents is essential to a successful program. Parents regularly receive informative emails from the Center Director and Kids' Club and community information is posted in the parent information area at the center. We also enjoy hosting several social events throughout the whole year. Something special happens once every other month during the times of 4:00pm to 5:30 pm. This is a great time to meet new parents and visit your old friends.
