Ohlone Kids' Club
Ohlone Kids' Club (OKC) provides a warm, nurturing, family-like environment for children, families and staff.
We teach and model positive, caring, supportive relationships with the children and staff, and are always looking for opportunities to help the children connect with the school and the community.
Center Activities
OKC has two classrooms that include a complete kitchen and restrooms, comfortable "living room" areas, and art and building spaces. We also have a kitchen area and the outdoor play area.
Each month, a theme is established and our staff creates two calendars of activities; one for the Kinder Care Program and one for the Mixed Age Program. Our children play outside almost everyday. Every Wednesday we have Club Activities, such as cooking club, yoga, girls sports, boys sports, carpentry, Kinder science, etc. We provide healthy snacks on a daily basis and try to buy organic food whenever possible. Our snacks consist of fresh produce and food from three food groups. Typically we have small pets in center so that kids learn to take care of the animals and learn about their natural habitats.
Using words to resolve conflicts and showing respect for others is very important at OKC. Every couple of months, Helper, Leadership, and Peacemaker awards are presented to children for unsolicited actions that make OKC a better place.
Our program also places an emphasis on community service. Fourth and fifth graders plan and carry out two community service projects per year, as well as helping with daily center tasks and leading games.
Parent Information and Participation
We have a very active Parent Advisory Board that meets monthly and helps with potlucks, field trips and general support. Our main family activities are the Back to School Potluck, Winter Solstice Party, Spring Cleanup Morning, and the End of the Year Potluck.
Parent Conferences are done in February and March. Each teacher invites the parents of the children in his/her snack group to sign up for a half hour time slot to discuss their child's progress at OKC.
