El Carmelo Kids' Club

At El Carmelo Kids' Club (ECKC), our primary mission is to provide a non-discriminatory, welcoming and friendly place where children have the chance to both grow and respect one another.

We place an emphasis on individual growth by nurturing responsible social behavior and conflict resolution skills through interaction with our well-qualified staff.

ECKC was accredited in June 2002 by the National AfterSchool Association (NAA), and works hard to provide quality child care for the surrounding community.

Center Activities

ECKC is located inside a large portable building on the campus of El Carmelo Elementary School. We are adjacent to a large grass field and an asphalt court, and have three play structures outside our doors.

We foster children's development by providing tools for a wide range of outside activities, including balls, hula hoops, chalk, and a variety of sand toys. We provide an abundance of supplies for arts and crafts, and have created a loft for children to relax and read.

Our large play area provides an open but cozy home-like feel complete with board games, building materials, and a space for dramatic play. Our building is very comfortable, with heating, air-conditioning, indoor bathrooms and a large kitchen.

ECKC's schedule gives children the ability to choose from the various activities we offer. These include snack time, inside-outside free play, and teacher-led activities that revolve around a monthly theme.

These themes offer continuity and an educational aspect to our program while being fun and exciting for the kids. Through allowing the children to choose from a variety of activities we recognize the individuality of each child. As a result, our children are not pressured to eat at a certain time, or to do a project when they feel like playing outside. Additionally, they learn how to manage their time effectively while having fun!

Parent Involvement and Participation

We believe that communication with parents is an essential part of the program at ECKC. Each family has a mailbox at the center by which we distribute our monthly newsletter, snack calendar, activities calendar, and other important notices. We make an effort to speak with parents at the end of each day's activities, and regularly communicate via email as well.

Our staff, children and parents enjoy family events at the center such as our Back to School, Winter, and End-of Year Potlucks, and other seasonal events such as Family Pumpkin Carving, barbecues, and Mother's Day tea.
