Addison Kids' Club
AKC's primary goal is to provide a place that is safe and nurturing for each child. Our program includes varied activities that will challenge and encourage children. While participating in these activities children learn to mature in problem solving skills, enhance self-esteem and pursue healthy relationships with peers and adults. Our philosophy is to create an environment that offers children a setting of warmth and security, while fostering independence and initiative by allowing freedom of choice and the assumption of responsibility within limits.
AKC achieved accreditation with the National After-School Association (NAA) in July of 2000 and re-accreditation in 2003 and 2007. Additionally, our staff has over 35 years of combined experience. We work closely with the Addison Elementary School to ensure easy and safe transition from school to our program. We have a strong relationship with the school principal, staff and PTA.
Center Activities
The curriculum at AKC involves daily teacher led activities, such as painting, collages and long term projects such as sewing and woodworking. The children have free choice of playing in one of our many special interest areas. We provide outdoor activities, our own basketball hoop, soccer goals and organized group games. Through these activities children of different ages have a chance to interact and build team-work skills. We offer time in our daily schedule for homework. We also offer safe transitions to after-school activities that are offered by and run on the school campus.
Parent Information and Participation
Each family receives weekly information each Monday morning via email. Information includes, weekly activities, snacks, special events and fundraisers.
We love our families to get involved in our program. We have three family potlucks and two family fun nights through out the year. We also have a couple of center fundraisers; our favorite is "Kids Night Out" in which your children stay with us for an evening of fun while parents go out.
