share talents & interests, and develop projects, please apply.

The Volunteer Intergenerational Program
The word intergenerational can take on several
meanings here at PACCC. At our Infant, Toddler and Preschool programs,
we find that middle-school and high-school volunteers suddenly become
grownups when they relate to two-, three-, and or four-year-olds.
And senior volunteers offer mentorship to the teens as much as to
the toddlers. The relationships that develop as they play, share
stories, or explore their talents in music, art, or cooking are
developmentally invaluable (for the children, teens and seniors
alike!).
Relationships are the basis of growth for the human being. From
birth through old age, we depend on the quality of our relationships
for emotional, physical, and psychological well being.

Diversity of age, language, culture, race,
interest and experience can only serve to stimulate and strengthen
relationships
and the quality of those relationships can be enhanced
both in group settings and one-on-one. Young and old have similar
needs that can be met by sharing of our increasingly limited resources.
Why Join the Program?
Participating in PACCCs Volunteer Intergenerational Program
is one of the most rewarding ways to contribute to your community
and make a difference in a childs life. As one volunteer put
it, I come home from volunteering with far more love and laughter
than I give. In addition, many of todays children and
teens have little or no opportunity to know or interact with elders.
PACCCs Volunteer Intergenerational Program keeps generations
connected and fosters understanding and compassion between them.
Do you know an elder or teen that could benefit from gaining VIP
status? If so, please call Sheila Mandoli at the PACCC offices,
(650) 493-2361, ext. 19.
