Sojourner Truth Child Development Center Goals and Objectives
Sojourner Truth Child Development Center (STCDC) is named after Sojourner Truth (1797-1833), a woman who, as a child and young adult, lived in slavery and who later, as a free woman, crusaded to abolish slavery and promote women’s rights.

STCDC’s Preschool Program emphasizes play-based care in a family-friendly environment. We also work closely with STCDC’s onsite Infant-Toddler Program in order to meet children’s needs as they grow and mature.
Sojourner Truth Child Development Center Activities
At STCDC, we believe children benefit from predictable structure and routine, allowing for flexibility and spontaneity in responding to their emerging ideas, needs and interests. Children participate in a variety of individual and group activities designed to develop language and reading readiness skills, enhance physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth, and to develop skills and attitudes which will expand each child’s individual potential.
Our program practices emergent curriculum, which builds upon the interests of the children. This type of curriculum is based on the most current research on brain development and focuses on concrete and meaningful learning experiences. Teachers draw on the children’s natural interest in discovery, desire to learn and need for close relationships with caregivers.
Children at STCDC have the opportunity to participate in Spanish and dance classes, as well as music activities. We also serve fresh breakfast daily to welcome children.
Parent Information and Participation
Parents are welcome any time at STCDC. We have a strong Parent Support Committee, which meets regularly to make improvements to the program. Additionally, we host several parent workdays and potluck meals each year in an effort to build a sense of community among our families.
